Abstract

Vocational education plays a pivotal role in preparing students for the demands of 21st-century workforce. To address these demands, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the integration of vocational education into the mainstream curriculum aiming to equip students with practical skills, and hands-on learning experiences that enhance employability and promote lifelong learning. This paper examines how innovative pedagogical approaches in vocational education as suggested by NEP 2020 help in fostering 21st-century skills among students such as critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, teamwork, leadership and other related skills essential for enhancing employability. The study highlights the pedagogical approaches like experiential learning, project-based learning, internships, ICT-based learning, collaborative learning, competency-based assessment as key strategies that demonstrate how students can bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. These approaches foster self-reliance, self-esteem, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities among students while also enabling teachers to adopt different strategies to develop their professional skills and create a dynamic classroom environment. By reimagining vocational education through innovative pedagogy students can able to bridge the gap between education and employment and acquire the competencies required for sustainable careers in a rapidly evolving work environment.
